জেনারেল জিয়ার বিএনপি প্রতিষ্ঠার আগে রাজনীতিতে শুধু সেই রাজনীতিকরাই সক্রিয় ছিলেন - যিনিরা পাকিস্তান আমলে আন্দোলন করেছিলেন এবং 1971 সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করেছিলেন।

1971 সালের মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করেও যিনিরা রাজনীতিতে তেমন সুবিধা করতে পারেন নি , তিনিরা জেনারেল জিয়ার বিএনপির মাধ্যমে রাজনীতিতে সক্রিয় হতে পেরেছিলেন। এমনকি তিনিদের অনেকেই সংসদ সদস্যও হয়েছিলেন।


আরও যে সকল ব্যক্তিরা সামর্থ্য থাকা সত্ত্বেও রাজনীতিতে সুবিধা করতে পারেন নি - তিনিরাও জেনারেল জিয়ার বিএনপির মাধ্যমে রাজনীতিতে সক্রিয় হতে পেরেছিলেন।
