General Zia at the center of power from almost death.
On August 15, 1975, General Zia was neither the army chief nor an influential minister.
Again, on November 3, 1975, he was under siege. There was no guarantee that even he would be killed or sent to jail.
On 7 November 1975, at the instigation of Colonel Taher and led by Major Jalil, Brigadier Khaled was killed, and General Zia was freed and installed in power.

Nevertheless General Zia should have passed the law to prosecute the murderers of Bangabandhu.
Instead of doing that, General Zia passed laws to protect the murderers.
Yes, Colonel Farooq (or Major Rashid) met General Zia before killing Bangabandhu. Then General Zia just said, "Go ahead."
Basically, for all these reasons, today General Zia is said to be directly involved in the assassination of Bangabandhu.
Colonel Taher's hanging.
General Zia was freed at the instigation of Colonel Taher and Brigadier Khaled was killed commanded by Major Jalil.
If it had not happened that day, maybe General Zia would have been killed or sent to jail.
Colonel Taher thought that, by placing General Zia in power, Colonel Taher would control General Zia.
But General Zia did not accept Colonel Taher's authority. Possibly at that time Madam Khaleda Zia gave courage to General Zia, not to accept Colonel Taher's authority.
But after General Zia was installed in power from captivity, Colonel Taher was executed by court-martial.
That was the beginning, then many members of the cantonment and air force of the country were killed in the name of Shuddhi Abhiyan.
Nonetheless instead of doing these, General Zia could have organized the trial of Bangabandhu's murderers.
Basically, even after 48 years of Bangabandhu's murder, Zia family and BNP have to pay for those big mistakes of General Zia.

মৃত্যুর কাছ থেকে ক্ষমতার কেন্দ্রে জেনারেল জিয়া।
১৯৭৫ সালের ১৫ আগস্ট জেনারেল জিয়া সেনা প্রধানও ছিলেন না এবং প্রভাবশালী মন্ত্রীও ছিলেন না।
আবার ৩ নভেম্বর ১৯৭৫ এ তিনি ছিলেন অবরুদ্ধ।এমনকি তিনিকে তখন হত্যা করা হবে, না কি জেলে পাঠানো হবে,সেটারও কোন নিশ্চয়তা ছিলো না।
৭ নভেম্বর ১৯৭৫ এ কর্নেল তাহেরের উসকানিতে এবং মেজর জলিলের নেতৃত্বে ব্রিগেডিয়ার খালেদকে হত্যা করা হয় এবং জেনারেল জিয়াকে মুক্ত করে ক্ষমতায় বসিয়ে দেয়া হয়।
হ্যাঁ,তখন থেকেই শুরু হয় প্রায় নিঃসঙ্গ জেনারেল জিয়ার ক্ষমতার প্রয়োগের মহা সুযোগ।
৩ নভেম্বরে যিনির বেঁচে থাকাটা ছিলো অনিশ্চিত ব্যাপার,৭ নভেম্বরে তিনি হয়ে উঠলেন বাংলাদেশের ক্ষমতা ও রাজনীতির হর্তা-কর্তা।তিনি জেনারেল জিয়া, পরবর্তীতে প্রেসিডেন্ট জিয়া।
জেনারেল জিয়ার বড় ভুল।
সশরীরে উপস্থিত থেকে কর্নেল ফারুক,মেজর ডালিম,মেজর রশিদ প্রমূখ বঙ্গবন্ধুকে হত্যা করেছে।
অথচ জেনারেল জিয়া ওদেরকে বিভিন্নভাবে সুবিধা প্রদান করেছেন।এমনকি ওদেরকে বিদেশে পাঠানোরও ব্যবস্থা করেছেন।
কর্নেল ফারুক ছিলো ব্রিগেডিয়ার খালেদের ভাগ্নে।আর ব্রিগেডিয়ার খালেদের নেতৃত্বে জেনারেল জিয়াকে অবরুদ্ধ করা হয়েছিলো।
অথচ কর্নেল ফারুককে জেনারেল জিয়া বিদেশে পাঠানোর ব্যবস্থা করেছিলেন।
আর জেনারেল জিয়া আইন পাশ করেছিলেন,যাতে বঙ্গবন্ধুর খুনিদের বিচার করা না হয়।
এটা ছিলো জেনারেল জিয়ার অতি মাত্রার ভুল।
অথচ জেনারেল জিয়ার উচিত ছিলো বঙ্গবন্ধুর খুনিদের বিচারের জন্য আইন পাশ করার।
সেটা না করে, জেনারেল জিয়া খুনিদেরকে রক্ষা করার জন্য আইন পাশ করলেন।
হ্যাঁ, বঙ্গবন্ধুকে হত্যার আগে কর্নেল ফারুক (অথবা মেজর রশিদ) জেনারেল জিয়ার সাথে সাক্ষাৎ করেছিলো।তখন জেনারেল জিয়া শুধু বলেছিলেন,"গো এহেড (এগিয়ে যাও)।"
মূলত এ সকল কারণেই আজো জেনারেল জিয়াকে বঙ্গবন্ধুর হত্যাকাণ্ডের সাথে সরাসরি জড়িত বলা হয়।
কর্নেল তাহেরের ফাঁসি।
কর্নেল তাহেরের উসকানিতেই জেনারেল জিয়াকে মুক্ত করা হয়েছিলো এবং মেজর জলিলের নেতৃত্বে ব্রিগেডিয়ার খালেদকে হত্যা করা হয়েছিলো।
সেদিন যদি এটা না হতো,তাহলে হয়তো সেদিন জেনারেল জিয়াকে হত্যা করা হতো,না হয় জেলে পাঠানো হতো।
কর্নেল তাহের মনে করেছিলেন, জেনারেল জিয়াকে ক্ষমতায় বসিয়ে জেনারেল জিয়াকেই কর্নেল তাহের নিয়ন্ত্রণ করবেন।
কিন্তু কর্নেল তাহেরের কর্তৃত্ব জেনারেল জিয়া মেনে নেন নি। হয়তো সেই সময়ে জেনারেল জিয়াকে ম্যাডাম খালেদা জিয়া সাহস জুগিয়েছিলেন,কর্নেল তাহেরের কর্তৃত্ব মেনে না নেয়ার জন্য।
কিন্তু জেনারেল জিয়াকে বন্দি অবস্থা থেকে ক্ষমতায় বসানোর পর কর্নেল তাহেরের ফাঁসি কার্যকর করা হয় কোর্ট মার্শালের মাধ্যমে।
সেই হলো শুরু,তখন সারা দেশের ক্যান্টনমেন্ট ও বিমান বাহিনীর অনেক সদস্যকে শুদ্ধি অভিযানের নামে হত্যা করা হয়েছিলো।
অথচ এগুলো না করে জেনারেল জিয়ার উচিত ছিলো, বঙ্গবন্ধুর খুনিদের বিচারের ব্যবস্থা করার।
মূলত বঙ্গবন্ধুর হত্যাকাণ্ডের ৪৮ বছর পরও জিয়া পরিবার ও বিএনপিকে জেনারেল জিয়ার ওই বড় ভুলগুলোর খেসারত দিতে হচ্ছে।
জেনারেল জিয়া ওই ভুলগুলো করেছিলেন বলেই, সশরীরে হত্যাকাণ্ডে উপস্থিত না থাকা সত্ত্বেও, বর্তমানে জেনারেল জিয়াকে ওই হত্যাকাণ্ডের সাথে সরাসরি জড়িত বলে অভিযুক্ত করা হচ্ছে।©️All Right Reserved by Junayed Ashrafur Rahman
